Locally sourced food
Eating and drinking in Glasgow
When it comes to food and drink, Glasgow has so much to offer. And so does Mal. If you want to sample the best of the best, our brasserie is the perfect place.
We believe in our countryside when it comes to producing the finest regional ingredients. The dishes on our menu allow us the opportunity to showcase some of the best local food producers, people who share our passion for great local and seasonal produce which has been grown, harvested and reared to the finest ethical and traditional farming methods.
Pop along to the brasserie to sample the finest local produce.
Here’s just a few of Glasgow’s tastiest hidden treasures:
All our vegetables are sourced through Paul Gunn who has been at the helm of Macdonald & Murdoch since 1980. Paul has been working in the industry since he was fourteen (some thirty-nine years ago!). He has very good contacts amongst the local farmers who provide him with organic vegetables through to individually grown specialist items.
Mellis Cheesemonger. Iain and Karen Mellis, originally from Cheshire, have been cheesemongers since opening their first shop in Edinburgh in 1993. They now have a shop in Glasgow with purpose built cellars for cheese maturation. It is their job to select the best cheeses and ripen them to table worthiness. Ian and Karen firmly believe that it is only with knowledge, enthusiasm and education of their staff that they are able to achieve customer satisfaction.
All our venison and game come from Braehead Foods, based in Ayrshire and owned by Craig Stevenson. Craig has owned the company now for over eight years but has been in the game industry for many more. Craig gets all of his venison from estates north of St Andrews, mainly on the Cairngorms. All the venison is caught wild, feeds on heather and lives in the barren landscape of the highland region.
